GIVEN

The traditional Korean perspective on nature sets it apart from the Western and many other cultures. While the West has often approached nature as something to conquer, Koreans embrace a philosophy of symbiosis. Rather than employing technology to exploit and control natural resources, Korean design traditions prioritize appreciation, respect, and a desire to uncover the inherent beauty of nature with minimal human intervention. Koreans have long understood the concept of affordance in contemporary design, skillfully harnessing the inherent potential of objects.

My exploration began with a fundamental question about the role of the creator. Embracing the Korean design mindset, my work revolved around seeking objects within nature and simply placing them in a way that serves human needs. A discovered stone, supported by a carefully crafted structure, serves as both a seat and a table surface, enabling users to engage with unaltered nature. This interaction allows individuals to connect with the raw essence of the natural world.
